Diving straight into the pharmacy business was the logical next step for her. But after swallowing the bitter pills of stagnation and under-appreciation in the employment of other people, she made the leap to financial planning in 2007 by joining a local insurance company. As an insurance agent, she’d have more flexibility and opportunities to rise up the ranks. This was met with scepticism by her former employer. They had even insinuated that she wouldn’t last long in this line of work. Proving them wrong, she went on and became a top agent for the insurance company within 1 year. Chasing material wealth and a cushy lifestyle, Huda Hakim enjoyed her hard-earned bonuses and commissions until she gained the Agency Builder title. But a question thrown in by her husband about the fine line between halal and haram had made her re-evaluate her career choices. Wanting to do the right thing, she explored Islamic financial planning, which was only introduced in Malaysia in 2007. She enrolled in Islamic Financial Planner (IFP) courses in 2008 and Certified Qualification in Islamic Finance (CQIF) programme in 2013 under IBFIM/FPAM. Upon gaining more knowledge in Islamic financial planning, she knew that selling insurance wasn’t the right fit. So, she re-branded herself as a Takaful planner under PruBSN Takaful Berhad. Being of Service to Others “The best of people is those who are the most beneficial to people” — Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) With years of experience in financial planning and numerous awards and recognitions to boot, Huda Hakim finally answered her true calling. It wasn’t only about gaining financial freedom for herself. It was her internal ‘marching orders’ to serve and empower others to succeed. Driven by this aspiration, she established Huda Hakim & Partners agency in July 2010 and added legacy planning to complete her service offerings. Until today, she trains and mentors financial planners who in turn strive to serve clients. For the past 13 years, we have been at the forefront of offering Islamic financial and legacy planning services under the purview of Prudential BSN Takaful Berhad and Awaris Trustee Berhad. We have more than 30 Takaful Consultants and Legacy Advisors to date.
